Animal welfare is one of the most top trending topics around the world today. There are many animal welfare organizations that work for the animal welfare and well being around the U.S.A. These bodies not only stand for animal rights but also as a voice against the abuse and torture that these species undergo from human acts. One of the biggest steps towards the cause is an animal rescue and sheltering.
Animal sheltering has made a significant stride in the last 20 years in and around the U.S.A. the animal welfare organizations started running rescue teams and protection homes for these creatures where they are provided with proper food, shelter and living. However, when talking about animal welfare across the United States there are six types of animal shelters operators. All these shelter homes work for animal welfare and have medical support as well to take care of the species when needed.
The six types of animal shelters operating in the United States today are:
* Municipal Animal Shelters
* Traditional Animal Shelters
* Limited Admission Animal Shelters
* Balanced Population Animal Shelters
* Animal Sanctuaries
* Rescue Organizations
Municipal Animal Shelters:
Municipal Animal Shelters are the types of shelters that work on government funding and support. These rescue centers generally cover a city, town, region, or county. This place welcomes all the animal breeds and types that come to them irrespective of any specification.
Traditional Animal Shelters:
Traditional Animal Shelters are shelters that are typically private, non-profit bodies that provide home and support of all animals that come to them for help. These bodies run in contract with the local municipality to provide support and shelter to animals for a particular area. These people also take abandoned animals and provide the animals for adoptions to families where they can be taken care of properly. They are privately funded through donations, grants, and adoption fees.
Limited Admission Animal Shelters:
Limited Admission Animal Shelters are private, non-profit shelters that have very less space and accommodation. These bodies only support the animals of limited count and the breed as per their own specification. Different types of centers provide homes to different kind of species depending upon their infrastructure and size.
Balanced Population Animal Shelters:
Balanced Population Animal Shelters are the type of shelters that provide home and care to all animals in need but are limited to particular areas. They take in only a limited number of animals at once and take care of them.
Animal Sanctuaries are the types of shelter or organizations that run for both private and non-profit causes. These bodies provide a home and shelter for special needs and unadoptable, large animals that need care and support. These bodies provide support and care to animals from public, pet stores, farms, and also to the abandoned creatures. Sanctuaries are privately funded and run on donations and support from the public. These are similar to a rescue organization that may have paid staff, but basically depend on volunteer participation or public donations for daily operations.
Rescue Organizations are private organizations dedicated to provide care and shelter to one breed or one type of animal breed. These organizations work through volunteers and foster homes and have a finite number of spaces available.
All these shelter homes are of different sizes, physical locations and kinds. But these all six types of organizations have the same purpose in mind, that is providing help and support to animals. Although their missions and strategies differ they work for the same cause and run on funds either collected from public or government. All these Animal welfare organizations goes a long way in ensuring a safe and animal friendly community for all.
